For Change Agents.

We’ve all heard the call to “be the change you want to see in the world.” I’d always understood this as a call to action. What I see now is a much more demanding call to inner transformation as the ground for transformation in the world.

We’re so practiced at looking outside ourselves for answers — the latest best practices; the models for how we should structure our campaigns and meetings; the expert analysis of what messaging works or doesn’t. There’s valuable information here, but too often it takes the place of simply being with the people right in front of us, of speaking honestly from what is in our hearts, of bringing something true into the world rather than something designed to have a certain impact.

What we all want, what we’re all fighting for, is the experience of our full humanity.

TRANSFORMING THE FIELD OF SERVICE FROM THE INSIDE OUT

A Call to Action: Addressing Norms that Undermine Performance & Sustainability

Change agents are those who are committed to promoting the well-being of others and positively impacting their communities. They include:
  • Individuals, parents, young people, elders, and community stakeholders of all backgrounds.
  • Practitioners, public servants and advocates working in the human services, education, arts, health/wellness, faith-based, social justice, and environmental protection fields.

As a trained social worker and capacity builder in the field of service, I understand that the commitment to creating a more just, caring and equitable world requires a deep reserve of energy, compassion, and resilience. Experience has also taught me that succeeding and thriving as a change agent means offering the best we have within us, and that our best self is our whole self -- our heads, hearts and inspired selves.

Yet the ability of change agents to offer their best is frequently compromised by stressful working conditions where heavy workloads, limited resources, and uncertainty about the future are widely accepted as 'the norm'.  In turn, the pressure created by this culture of busyness and scarcity can contribute to low morale,
burnout and higher turnover.  It can also give rise to feelings of overwhelm and disconnect that increase the disparity between stated values/goals and team behaviors  -- all of which can collectively undermine the efficacy, credibility and sustainability of change efforts.

Meeting The Challenge - An Overview of Services

I provide specialized coaching, workshops and consultation to help those working in service sectors move beyond self-defeating 'norms', embrace the inner work behind transformative change, navigate complex challenges with clarity, and create essential opportunities for renewal.

Focus areas include cultivating:

Expanded Awareness:  Understanding the connection between our inner self and outer experience; Seeking a higher vision of life and one's sense of purpose; Viewing the relationships we have with others as mirrors for how we relate to ourselves.

Heart-centered Presence:  Engaging ourselves and others with compassion, authenticity, kindness and respect;  Tuning in to our innate wisdom and intuition.

Conscious Humility:  Releasing 'doership' and 'fixing' as a source of validation; Surrendering ego-based motivations and resistance; Remaining open to new learning and growth in the midst of challenging situations.

Empowered Receptivity:  Welcoming guidance and support; Staying open to new insights and ideas; Finding the gift in each experience.

Active Nourishment:   Regularly feeding your mind, body and spirit in ways that increase vibrant energy, positivity, and resilience.
